Repercussões clínicas da deficiência de zinco em humanos

Resumo

O zinco é um micronutriente essencial à homeostase humana, tendo sido demonstrada sua participação como constituinte integral ou co-fator em mais de 300 metaloenzimas. Trata-se de um oligoelemento que está envolvido em inúmeros pontos do metabolismo, como na síntese protéica, replicação de ácidos nucleicos, divisão celular, metabolismo da somatomedina, modulação da prolactina, ação da insulina e de hormômios tireoidianos, da suprarrenal e testículos, além de exercer importante função na cicatrização e no sistema imunológico humano. Embora com funções orgânicas vitais, apresenta-se em quantidades diminutas no organismo humano (1,5 a 2,5 g) e está alocado principalmente no meio intracelular. A deficiência de zinco relaciona-se ao mais importante estado patológico envolvendo o metabolismo de um metal no organismo e pode ocorrer principalmente por uma dieta insuficiente ou por distúrbios de absorção do oligoelemento no tubo gastrintestinal. O presente trabalho aborda aspectos relevantes da fisiologia e biodisponibilidade do zinco, enfatizando as repercussões clínicas de sua deficiência no organismo humano.
